What is the difference between Qigong and Yoga?
Qigong originated in China, yoga in India.
Qi roughly translates as energy and gong as practice, so qigong is the practice of working with and developing skill with energy, ensuring a smooth flow of qi around the body. It is a standing moving practise.
Yoga comes from the word yuj, meaning to yoke, uniting mind, body and breath, ensuring a free flow of prana around the body. It is a mat based practise that has seated postures as well as standing.
Both use mindful, intentional movement to balance and harmonise the flows of energy within us.
What is the difference between Tai Chi and Qigong?
They are similar on the surface but evolved for different purposes. Tai Chi has a martial arts background and Qigong is more of a flowing, healing, meditative practice.
